Although the existence of email and web based scams is not new, new approaches continue to be tried every day. This post is just a friendly reminder to be aware of anything that tries to encourage disclosure of personal information, uses scare tactics or makes amazing promises.
Below are a few recent examples of hoax and phishing emails.
Harassment Complaint Email

Subject: Harassment Complaint Update For

Notification of Tax Refund Email
From: IRS
Subject: Notification of Tax Refund on your VISA or MasterCard

Lottery, beneficiary, etc Email
Far too many flavors of these to list, but basically if you get email about winning the lottery, inheriting unexpected millions or any other crazy idea to learn about through email... it's probably a phishing attempt!
